Cleaning rollers are highly specialized rollers used to clean the surface of another object. This technology can be applied to countless applications and these types of rollers are particularly useful for removing dust and particulate. For example, Hiawatha Rubber has developed solutions for circuit board, laser etching on plastic and photographic film cleaning applications.
The following parameters should be considered when designing a cleaning roller:
- Outside diameter tolerance
- Runout tolerance
- Surface finish (usually smooth)
- Hub material (aluminum is preferred, but not limited to)
- Amount of tackiness required, which can be adjusted by Hiawatha

Note: Due to the relatively low durometer of cleaning rollers, we generally design these parts "as-molded". This means that we do not grind the outside diameter after molding. Because of this, diameter and runout tolerances cannot be held as closely as other types of rollers. |
